Did you know? formaldehyde (HCHO) monitoring

In the context of increasingly stringent air quality regulations and growing awareness of indoor pollutants, formaldehyde (HCHO) monitoring has become a top priority. At CHROMATOTEC, we don’t just measure formaldehyde — we generate, quantify and validate it with patented precision.

Reliable Formaldehyde Generation with Paraformaldehyde Tubes

CHROMATOTEC has engineered a compact permeation-based calibration system using paraformaldehyde. Advantages over cylinder-based standards:

  • Wide and controlled concentration range (ppb to ppm level)
  • Predictable output thanks to a temperature-emission relationship modelled by the Antoine equation
  • Stable output over 1 year with RSD ~5%
  • Fast stabilization (few minutes) for on-site usability
  • Certified by DNPH-HPLC (ISO 16000-3) for higher reliability than weight-based certification

This calibration module is now integrable into our formaldehyde analyzers, enhancing autonomous, in-situ calibration capabilities.

Measurement with Chromatotec products

The airmoF microfluidic device for formaldehyde is dedicated to on-line monitoring based on the Hantzsch reaction. Designed for ultra-trace detection and field robustness, it delivers:

  • High sensitivity with detection < 0.1 ppb
  • Auto-zero at every cycle to eliminate drift
  • No influence of humidity (tested up to 50% RH)
  • Excellent linearity (R² > 0.99)
  • Internal HCHO module calibration
microF - Portable Formaldehyde Analyzer

When mobility and responsiveness matter, the microF offers reliable continuous formaldehyde monitoring in a compact portable format. Dedicated to field campaigns with 4-hour autonomy on battery.

  • High sensitivity < 0.3 ppb
  • Real-time or cycle-time analysis
  • Suitable for indoor air monitoring, IAS audits, emergency response
  • Lightweight and low maintenance
  • No gas required

Field-proven performance – Puy de Dôme Research campaign

The airmoF system was tested during a 3-month atmospheric campaign at the Puy de Dôme summit (1465 m). Daily checks using a certified formaldehyde permeation tube, combined with reference DNPH-HPLC sampling, confirmed the reliability of our instruments in real-world conditions.
